Sauna Whisk — Birch

The classic Finnish sauna whisk. Hand-tied from freshly cut birch branches and carefully air-dried, this is the vihta (or vasta, in Eastern Finland) that has been part of the sauna ritual for centuries.

Rehydrate in warm water for 5–10 minutes, then gently strike the skin from shoulders down to feet. The leaves release a sweet, grassy birch aroma while stimulating circulation, exfoliating and opening pores. Birch is unmatched for scent, and the supple young leaves stay soft through a full session.

How to use

• Soak in warm water for 5–10 minutes before entering the sauna
• Beat lightly and rhythmically over shoulders, back and legs
• Each vihta typically lasts 1–2 sauna sessions
